Welcome to 3rd Grade!

The Journey Continues

Third grade is a pivotal year in a child's educational journey, marking a transition between early childhood and the more structured academic challenges of later grades. Known as the Turning Point of Childhood, this stage brings significant cognitive, emotional, and social changes.

Academically, third grade is essential for strengthening foundational skills. Students delve into more complex subjects while developing critical literacy and numeracy abilities that will support their future learning. The continuation of hands-on learning, including practical projects and research assignments, fosters curiosity and nurtures a lifelong love for learning.

About 3rd Grade

Third grade at Nevada Sage Waldorf School marks a pivotal time in a child’s development. As children around the age of nine begin to experience the "nine-year change," they transition from a dreamy, imaginative worldview to a more realistic perspective, becoming aware of their individuality and separation from their parents. This new sense of independence often brings questions, self-doubt, and wonder.

To support students through this transition, the third-grade curriculum offers nurturing and reassuring lessons, including creation stories and Hebrew legends. These stories reflect the journey of individuals navigating the world, offering the nine-year-old a sense of connection and understanding that they are not alone in their experiences.

Third graders are also eager to engage with the world around them through hands-on work. They explore practical subjects such as shelter building, farming, time, and measurement, as well as learning about clothing and fibers. This is also the year when students write and present their first research paper, focusing on the theme of shelter, marking an important step in their academic journey.
